BOTW, The Ruby Turtle Hippie Times

I have had the privilege of working with Sam on two designs, both of which were so unique and fun to work on.  I appreciate that Sam gives me an idea and then gives me creative liberty to design her site.  I’m not going to lie, her latest design is probably one of my favorites.  So without further ado…

Sam, The Ruby Turtle Hippie Times

Explain the meaning behind the name of your blog.
HA!  Wellllllllll….

Ruby- this is a nod to my favorite color, movie and football team. My favorite color is ruby red as in the ruby red slippers. My favorite movie is as you’ve probably already guessed, The Wizard of Oz. My favorite football team is the Oklahoma Sooners! (I’m an alumni!) And yes, I know our colors are crimson and cream, but ruby sounded better.

Turtle- T is for Turtle. Duh. No my last name starts with a T, but I don’t reveal my last name ever on the blog so you get Turtle instead. Plus, I really like turtles. We got to hold one on our honeymoon and then we started collecting them. They’re all through our house now.

Hippie- This is a nod towards my political beliefs and my love for one of the most famous political families, the Kennedy’s.

In a nutshell, my blog name really describes me and parts of my personality. Plus, it’s original.

SamHow long have you been blogging? Why did you start blogging?
I’ve been blogging for four years now. I started blogging as a way to keep up with my best friend who lives in NEW! YORK! CITY! (said in my best Pace Picante commercial voice!). From there, I just kept blogging.

What do you love most blogging?
I love the relationships that are formed based on the similar situations we’ve all been in and how each person might go through the same experience, but what it looks like on paper…err…the computer screen is completely different and yet totally relatable.

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve discovered since you began blogging?
I really enjoy writing. It’s such a good exercise for my brain and it is now one of my releases when I’m going through something. It really does help me to sit down and write about it and put it out into the blogosphere. It’s a really cheap form of therapy.

What is the one thing you want others to know about yourself, or your blog?
I love Jesus and without Him, my accomplishments of all forms would not exist.

And then life happened…

I hang my head in shame as I come to you to ask for your mercy.  Last week I realized I missed both a Twitter and Facebook contest in April AND May.  Not to mention, June’s contest is coming up next week.  Awesomeness.

So to rectify the situation, and to show my sincere appreciation for your continued support, y’all have a change to win 1 of 3 different Deluxe designs next week.

  • The first design will go to the winner of the originally scheduled contest next week.  Its taking place on Monday, June 24th @ 6:00pm (MST) over on Munchkin Land Designs’ Facebook page.
  • The second design will go to the winner of a Twitter contest taking place an hour later.  Just to reiterate, it’ll be Monday, June 24th @ 7:00pm (MST) over on Munchkin Land Designs’ Twitter page.
  • And lastly, everyone who plays in either (or both) contests, will be entered into a drawing for the last Deluxe blog design.

However, I want to give those of you who won’t be able to play next Monday an opportunity to enter too.  So if you’ll leave a comment on this post, letting me know how you found Munchkin Land Designs or your favorite design from the updated Design Gallery, I’ll also include you in the drawing for the third Deluxe blog design.

And again, thank you for your patience and grace!  Its been a crazy couple of months and well, life gets in the way sometimes.  Ha!

Looking forward to contesting with y’all next week!  See you then!

BOTW, Life in Middle School

I’ve had the pleasure of working with numerous teachers on building sites for their classrooms.  And as a parent, I would absolutely LOVE it if my children’s teachers had a blog.  I think its an incredible communication tool.  I was delighted to work with Lauren and bring her ideas to life.  Click on over and check out her site!

Lauren, Life in Middle School

Explain the meaning behind the name of your blog.
Life in Middle School basically stands for my crazy life as a Middle School teacher. It’s always a very "special" age for kids… they’re not super small and cute like in elementary school, while not closing in on adulthood like High School.

How long have you been blogging? Why did you start blogging?
I’ve been blogging since September of 2011. I had been transferred from my Middle School, which was my home away from home. I was feeling lonely and disconnected from my teaching friends, so I reached out to the blogging community! It’s been great to share and learn so many things from my online teaching friends. Luckily, I’ve been transferred back to my original Middle School, so I have the best of both worlds!

laurenWhat do you love most blogging?
I love that blogging inspires me to go above and beyond in my classroom! There are so many ideas, tips and tricks… you can stay busy for hours changing things and improving your classroom.

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve discovered since you began blogging?
I guess that I have followers!! (heehee!) I honestly started blogging to get some of my ideas out on "paper" and it’s been just a wonderful surprise to have people follow my website. I’m still small in the "educational" blogging community, but I enjoy that there’s a lot of room to grow and learn.

What is the one thing you want others to know about yourself, or your blog?
For my blog… I’d like people to know that it’s an open place for ideas. I’m very open to new ideas and I love hearing from my followers!  For me? I’m a hockey fan and finally, finally FINALLY… my long suffering LA Kings have finally won the Stanley Cup! I’ve been playing hockey my entire life and I met my husband on the hockey rink. We’re just a hockey family! :)

BOTW, This = My Experience

This week’s blog of the week is Sara, from This = My Experience.  She was an absolute joy to work with and I really hope you’ll hop over and say hello!

Sara, This = My Experience

Explain the meaning behind the name of your blog.
Since my blog is basically just a reflection of the things that go on in my life, I wanted a title that said that in a simple, but clever way. So my title, "This = My Experience" just means that my blog is about my experiences in life.

How long have you been blogging? Why did you start blogging?
I’ve been blogging off and on since 2008. I have had a couple of different blogs, but this is the one that I’ve kept up the longest. In the beginning, I started blogging after seeing a blog that belonged to a friend of mine. I had no idea that such a community existed, but as I began to poke around other blogs, I realized how great bloggers can be, and I decided I wanted to be part of this great community.

What do you love most blogging?
I love the freedom it gives me. I love that my blog is my space and I can do with it what I want. And, if someone else likes it and wants to join in, they are free to do so.

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve discovered since you began blogging?
I have definitely been surprised to learn how how real some blogging friends can be. I never knew that such strong friendships and connections could be made through blogging.

What is the one thing you want others to know about yourself, or your blog?
I definitely want people to know that I love blogging and the bloggers who make up this amazing community. It is unlike anything else I have ever been a part of.
